Augusta summers are brutal. Schedule your move for early morning — ideally starting at 7 or 8 AM before temperatures peak. Keep cold water available for the entire crew. Protect heat-sensitive items like electronics, candles, and vinyl records from the truck heat.
🎖️ Tip 2 — Military Families — Know Your Weight Allowance
If you are PCSing from Fort Gordon, know your weight allowance by rank before you start packing. Consider a Personally Procured Move (PPM) — if you move for less than the government rate you keep the difference. Contact your Transportation Office early as slots fill up fast during peak PCS season in June and July.
📦 Tip 3 — Declutter Before You Pack
The less you move the less you pay. Go room by room and separate items into keep, donate, sell, and trash. Augusta has great donation centers including Goodwill and Salvation Army. Selling furniture on Facebook Marketplace before your move puts cash in your pocket and reduces your moving cost.

The Masters Golf Tournament takes place every April at Augusta National. Hotel prices skyrocket, traffic increases, and moving logistics become complicated. Avoid scheduling moves during Masters week if at all possible. If you must move during this time book at least 8 weeks in advance.

Never accept a verbal quote. Always get a written flat-rate estimate so your price is locked in before moving day. Hourly pricing can balloon unexpectedly. A flat rate protects your budget completely.

Update your address with USPS, your bank, credit cards, employer, insurance, Georgia DMV, and the IRS. Set up mail forwarding at least 2 weeks before your move date.
🐾 Tip 7 — Plan for Your Pets
Have a friend or pet sitter keep animals away from the chaos of moving day. Never leave pets in a hot car in Augusta — temperatures can become dangerous within minutes. Pack a pet essentials bag with food, water, medications, and their favorite toy.
📸 Tip 8 — Document Everything
Before movers arrive take photos and videos of all valuable items and furniture. Document any pre-existing damage. Do the same when items arrive at your new home. This protects you in the rare event of a damage claim.
